Movers Nigeria to Canada

Shifting to chilly Canada from tropical Nigeria can be a big change. You will need to invest in some warm clothing and depending on where you are moving and where you are relocating from in Nigeria, you may have to learn some English or French. Many Nigerians have already moved to Canada, with large numbers settling in cities such as Vancouver and Toronto. Nigerian expat communities in the country are thriving, embracing the charms of this comparatively frigid country.

This is a guide to what you need to know about hauling from Nigeria to Canada.

How Do I Import My Household Goods?

Most people shifting internationally work with an overseas moving company. The relocation process is complicated and navigating customs regulations is just not something most people enjoy doing. Even just packing for an foreign move is next level. Not only do you have to pack your personal belongings for safe transport, you also have to provide a detailed, box-by-box inventory for shipping declarations.

When you enter Canada, you will submit the following forms to declare your shipments during customs clearance. If you work with professional haulers and shippers, you’ll have help through this process. If you are traveling with your shipment, you would complete Form BSF186 - Traveling with Things. If you are arriving separately, you should submit Form BSF186A - Goods to Follow. Either way, you will need to be physically present as your things shift through the customs declaration process.

Most household items can be imported free of tax and customs duty. However, items shipped to Canada tax free must remain in your possession for at least a year, or retroactive taxes must be paid.

What Will Be the Charge For Receiving My Belongings?

When you ship your household goods, you have a number of sea freight options available. For transporters, you can choose to ship by Ro Ro, (Roll on, Roll off) or by container. A full container load is roughly 12 meters of cargo space. Half containers are for smaller loads or vehicles.

The cost to ship a full container from Nigeria to Canada is ₦2,516,500 - ₦4,138,200 and the trip will take 4-6 weeks. That figure, however, is not all-inclusive. Working with an international transferring company will allow you to get a reasonable cost estimate which will reflect exactly what you will expend on your move. That information can be hard to obtain on your own.

Are Vehicle Entries Permitted?

In most cases, no. Canada does not permit imports of cargo carriers except in special circumstances. Transports that are not meant to be driven, for example, might be permitted. Transporters manufactured for use outside of North America do not comply with the Canadian government’s mechanical standards, and mechanically modified vehicles cannot be imported. Touch base with your local Canadian embassy or foreign moving services provider for further guidance.
