Tips For Organizing Your Closet On A Budget

Tips For Organizing Your Closet On A Budget

When it’s time for seasonal cleaning of your home, one area you shouldn’t neglect is your closet. It’s easy to overlook since it’s not an area of the house that we spend much (if any) time in since it’s mainly used to store clothes and other items. But that doesn’t mean it can’t get dirty or needs some occasional sprucing up and organizing. Luckily, the closet is one area of the home that’s relatively easy and affordable to keep clean and organized.

Tips For Organizing Your Closet On A Budget:

If you follow the simple tips for organizing your closet, you’ll be well on your way to making sure your closet is organized and free of any unnecessary clutter.

Use the Door

One way to maximize the usable space in your closet is to take advantage of the closet door. The inside of the door (facing inward toward the closet) is an area you can easily hang a rack on to store shoes, clothes, coats, or whatever else requires some extra hanging room. One very popular idea that relates to another tip on this list is to implement a door hanging shoe rack to store shoes efficiently and out of sight. There are several over-the-door hanging racks that can store up to 20 pairs of shoes or more, which can create drastically more space in your closet if you don’t have a separate space for shoes.

Declutter At Least Once A Year

When it comes to decluttering the home, most people have no problem getting rid of items that they don’t use, but the closet is one area that is always more of a challenge. We tend to hang on to clothes that we don’t even wear, either for sentimental reasons or just because the closet isn’t an area we think of when it’s time to declutter. It’s helpful to take a serious look at what’s in your closet and dresser to take inventory of what clothes you wear and get rid of those that you don’t. Twice a year is ideal, especially in different seasons, but even if you can only get it once a year, you’ll save yourself a lot of space in the closet.

Increase Your Hanging Space

If you find that you don’t have enough space for your hanging clothes, there’s a simple solution. You can either add another bar if you have the room to do so, or you can use a multiple-hanger system that lets you effectively double your space for hanging clothes within the same space. This can create a rather cramped closet, but if you’re pressed for space, it’s a good way to maximize your usage of it.

Store Seasonal Clothes

If you live in an area with temperatures that vary widely by season, you can create a lot more closet space by storing your out-of-season clothes. This can create a lot more space in a small closet and is especially helpful if you have available storage in other areas of the home. Winter clothes can be particularly bulky and take up a lot of room so having another area to store them during warmer months frees up a lot of usable space in the closet.

Find A Home For Shoes

Shoes are another item that can take up a lot of space if you don’t have an area to store them outside the closet. We mentioned above that an over-the-door shoe rack is one solution, but another is to store them outside of the closet. There is a wide selection of fashionable shoe organizers that can be set up elsewhere in the bedroom without looking like a cluttered mess. Many of them even have a nice seating area atop them where you can comfortably put your shoes on before heading out the door.
