House Cleaning Tips When Moving

House Cleaning Tips When Moving | Three Movers
Cleaning is one of the least enjoyable aspects of moving to a new place. We all know that the chore is lurking out there as the last thing we’ll have to do before leaving and it’s rarely something that’s looked forward to. The good news is that, with a little planning and breaking the job down into smaller parts, it can be done without too much hassle as you’re completing the other tasks that go along with moving. With that in mind, here are some of our best tips for house cleaning when moving.
First Things First
Before you start tackling the first rooms you’ll be cleaning, you should take inventory of what you have, what you need, and what needs to get done. This means you’ll want to map out a plan for which rooms to clean first (those you use least) and which need to be cleaned last (bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen). You’ll also want to gather any cleaning supplies you need for the job, which means you first have to determine what needs to be done.
Walls
Walls can be cleaned and repaired somewhat early on in the process since you’ll need to pack lights, art, photos, and other wall hangings for the move. Make sure that you remove any nails, screws, or fixtures from the wall before you attempt to fix any holes or apply paint. It’s much easier what needs to be done if the room is entirely empty and you can focus on any minor damage that’s occurred and needs repairing. A compound like spackle or putty can be used to cover up any holes in the wall and a quick coat of paint can make the walls look good as new. Just make sure that you match whatever paint you use to the existing paint in your home or you’ll be left having to repaint the entire house before moving.

Floors
Floors come in many different varieties so what you have to do may depend on what type of floors you have in your home. For example, if you have wood floors, you may have to invest some time in repairing them if there have been scratches or damages over the time you’ve lived there. As a basic rule of thumb, you should vacuum and mop all floors before leaving, as well as making sure the baseboards are clean and in good shape. Be sure to dust in and around corners too since that’s where cobwebs tend to build up. If your home is mostly carpeted, you’ll want to rent a carpet cleaner to leave it in the best condition possible. Be sure to communicate to the landlord or the buyer that you’ve cleaned the floors so that they don’t spend resources doing the same job.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms are one of the real challenges when it comes to deep cleaning. Soap and buildup from other products can collect over time and it may take some elbow grease to remove things that have settled. Be sure to pay special attention to the toilet, tub, and sink since they’re the most frequently used components in the bathroom, not to mention, often the dirtiest. Check the grout and caulking around the tub and shower to see if you need to patch anything up before moving out—these are cheap and easy fixes that will go a long way toward making sure everything looks good.
Kitchen
The kitchen is another room in the house that will need some cleaning attention before you move out, and like the bathrooms, should be one of the last rooms you pack and clean. You’ll want to make sure the floors are clean, of course, but you also need to focus on the stove, sink, counter tops, and cupboards. Likewise, if there are any appliances that are staying in the home, for example a refrigerator or built-in microwave, you’ll want them as clean as possible for the next prospective tenant or buyer. You can do some of the cleaning in the kitchen as you pack, but you’ll want to make sure you give it a once over before actually leaving so that no crumbs or spills are left unattended to.
