Factors that Affect the Rate
When preparing a cost-effective budget, it is critical to take into account every minor detail. Our experienced consultants will equip you with all the information you need to make an informed decision. Some of the general factors for bagged shipping prices are :
- The weight of your goods determines the final level of pail selection, which includes 20′, 40′, and 40′ cube sizes. The maximum weight that can be carried is 45,000 pounds. The Indian government imposes limits on the importation of signed credit cards, personal baggage, milk, and chocolate products from Chinese confectioneries, among other things, all of which must be licensed before being packed.
- The distance between India and the United States is 8,448 miles, which is a substantial distance that will affect your ultimate fuel budget per mile. Natural causes, like seasonal tides or storms, which must be insured, too, can cause travel delays.
- The peak season for shipping containers from the United States to Asia is from July to October. As a result, we have trouble organizing trucks and other resources for you. This may cause the charges to rise above the original price.
What is the Size Of Container According To Your Requirements?
Containers can be customized to match your package requirements or your budget. You can choose from a list of such categories, such as :
- High Cube Cartons
- Open Top Container
- Thermal Can

Less Than A Container (LCL) is a low-cost solution that can accommodate many occupants. Our company sets a weight limit for you, which you must comply with. The cost of household products could range from $73.70 per cubic meter to $607.20.

What is Cost of a Container?
The price of shipping a 40' or 20' dry van container from India to the U.S costs between $1,600 - 1,800 per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit). This includes ocean liner transportation charges and port handling charges at Mumbai/Nhava Sheva. It does not include duties, taxes, or other charges in India.
The cost of shipping varies with the size/volume of jar shipped, weight and distance of shipment, market demand at the time of loading, etc. To get more accurate international freight rates or to get specific price quotes for your requirements please request a free quote.
What is the Charge of Exporting a car?
The cost of shipment a car to India depends on the weight and type of vehicle. Since vehicles come in various types and sizes, it is necessary to calculate the exact dimensions and weight so as to find out the appropriate charges.
For instance, if you want to ship a sedan-type car weighing around 2,000 lbs then you should be willing to pay around $800 to $1,000. On the other hand, if you want to ship a truck weighing around 5,000 lbs then you should be willing to pay between $900 and $1,100.
How much the Price to ship a 40ft container?
The cost of hauling a 40-foot container from the United States to India typically runs from $1,500-$4,000 (about Rs 90,000 and 200, 000) depending on its final destination. The price of shipping crates is determined by their weight and size.
The heavier the crate, the more it costs to ship. Similarly, longer rates are also pricier than smaller ones because they take up more space in the truck transporting them and thus the transportation costs rise.
How much The Cost to ship a 20ft container?
Dispatch rates for containers are not set in stone. You'll need the TEU number first (twenty-foot equivalent unit). About 2,200 pounds of material can be stored in a regular 20-foot drums. Calculating the weight of your package is as easy as dividing the volume, in cubic feet, by 166. (the number of cubic feet in a ton).
This will give you the number of pounds. For example, if your cargo takes up 200 cubic feet and weighs 500 lbs, divide 500 by 166 to get 2.857 TEU's. To calculate how much it costs to ship a container from one location to another use our shipping rates calculator found on all our pages.
How big is a 20ft container?
It is a little over 8'6" tall, 8' wide, and approximately 8.5-9.5 long depending on where it's made.
To find out how many pounds are in your shipment you can simply divide the number of cubic feet of space that it takes up by 166(the number of cubic feet in a ton). This will give you the number of pounds.
For example, if your international shipments take up 200 cubic feet and weigh 500 lbs, divide 500 by 166 to get 2.857 TEU's. To calculate how much it costs to ship a container from one location to another use our shipping rates calculator found on all our pages .
How Huge is a 40ft Cargo container?
A standard 40 ft holder is a little over 8'6" tall, 8' wide, and approximately 12-13 long depending on where it's made. Although a 40-foot holder is slightly larger, the cost of using a 40 ft over a 20 ft is very little due to its weight and number of TEUs.
Types of Freight
Shipping freight is a form of moving goods from one place to another. Cargo ships transport cargo, which can be full bins or bulk products such as ore from the mining site to the destination port.
Freight can also be transported by train or truck, but commonly it is transported by ship due to its larger capacity and distance.
Freight can be packed into containers—a standard 20- or 40-foot container has the same effect as dozens of individual boxes in terms of ease of loading and unloading.
Types of freight for carriage are usually determined by the type of cargo being transported, even though it is also important to take other considerations such as the destination port and the availability of a ship at the time. The following are common types of freights for shipping:
Airfreight, sea freight, rail freight, courier freight
Shipping is the transport of goods and materials by land, air, sea, or space. The term logistics originally referred to transport by sea between port towns on sea routes, but it has grown to include other modes of transport. Sending may be done by surface transportation (roadways, railways) or by air or space transportation.
Large cargo weight that is transported by ship is also called ocean or water freight, whereas small pail size that is transported by road vehicle, train, pipe or another means of flat landed transport is called containerization.
It plays a key role in how the economy functions because it allows businesses to send their products to consumers without having to worry about sending.

Carriers
In this process, we have to deal with multiple carriers. We have to book a slot from the nearest international station and leave the container there for loading by one of the operators or forwarders.
In most cases, they will take care of selecting an appropriate vessel based on your requirement like if you want it faster then at least FCG(Full Container charge) will be required (45 days from door to door) if it is urgent and within 20days then LCL(Less than a jar load) might be the right option(45days from seaport to seaport
After that we have to book a slot for delivering the vessel along with all the custom papers and documents to the nearest international station or you can also take it directly to your own place.
The charges for this will be much lower because in this case carrier has already moved one way of his journey.
Which is Less than Wrapper Charge (LWG)?
Less than container load (LCL) is the term used to describe any number of products or items that are loaded into an overseas transport service pouch without having to fill the entire space.
Because of this, it takes on the cost of shipping one full pack load (FPL). Accordingly, LCL keg distribution costs are cheaper than FCL freight sack. You need to know about the nitty-gritty of LCL shipping:
Price:
The cost of cargo a less than caddy load (LCL) shipment is cheaper than the price of a full weight (FW). While you can save on costs initially, remember that it will take longer for your goods to reach their destination
LCL shipments need to be consolidated with other manufacturers and suppliers' goods in order to fill an entire carafe.
This means that you might end up paying more money in the long run because of all the extra added charges. The only way around this is if you keep your LCL shipment consigned through one supplier, who in turn will consolidate the load with others.
Size:
An LCL shipment can be of any size or weight. As mentioned, you will end up paying more in transportation costs when your shipment is less than container weight (LCW), which means that it is not complete and most likely not bulk either. Thus, if you are shipping a bulky item, make sure it fits in an actual jar.
Time:
Because of the extra time that it takes for your LCL shipment to reach its destination, it is advised that you don't choose less than caddy weight (LCW) when shipping items worth thousands of dollars.
The risk factor here is higher due to the length of time involved with getting your shipment to its destination.
Customs:
The time it takes for your shipment to clear customs and reach its destination is shorter when you choose a full envelope load (FEL).
By choosing less than container load (LCL), these items will take longer to arrive at their final destination. This means that the risk factor in delayed delivery times increases.
What is a Full Container Load(FCL)?
A Full Load or FCL is a pail that has been loaded with cargo to its maximum capacity. The shipper/producer or a representative will usually load the FCL. The person in charge of loading the container is referred to as a stevedore.
In general, an FCL consists of 20 foot and 40-foot flask. However, less common tote types such as 45 foot and 48-foot tub are also part of an FCL.
Please note that if you are shipping goods to more than one destination or have goods being delivered to several different locations, it is more beneficial to fill the chest with cargo. This will result in a cheaper price per KG of transported freight.
Why is India considered expensive?
Everything in India is expensive, labor rates are higher, taxes are higher and utility bills are high too. And in all of these rates, the cost of living is also on the higher side. Add to it the freight charges which are 7-12 times more expensive than rest of world.
Price can be lowered by splitting shipment & choosing slow-moving items
You can always split your shipment into multiple consignments and make them arrive at different time intervals.
This way you will be able to keep your inventory moving and also reduce the freight charges. If possible try to choose slow-moving items from your stock list so that they don't remain in the warehouse for a longer time.
Frequently Asked Questions
The documentation required to ship a container to India is determined by the nature of the imported goods and the Indian government's trade policies. As a result, we have managers who will assist you in obtaining the proper documentation for your cargo to India.
When shipping a container from one country to another, the mover issues a document to the cargo owner that specifies the conditions of the cargo contract and, in most cases, serves as the cargo receipt. The "bill of lading" is the formal name for this document.
Without a doubt, losing your BOL is a big problem that would cost you time and money. When an original bill of lading is lost, however, obtaining a Bank Guarantee and/or Letter of Indemnity is one of the things that must be done to facilitate cargo discharge. If you lose your Bill of Lading, it's a good idea to prepare and collect the following documents:
● A written declaration of loss
● Cargo commercial invoice
● packing list
● Copy of Letter of Credit (if payment was made via Letter of Credit)
● Approval of the shipper
● Letter of indemnification (prepared by the shipper)
● Letter of indemnity (prepared by the recipient)
● Guarantee from a bank
● Formal request: release without OBL or new set OBL issuance
Some goods are prohibited in India while others are restricted.
Prohibited items
● Narcotic drugs
● Pornographic material
● Counterfeit goods and money
● Indian coins (covered by the Antique and Art Treasure Acts, 1972).
● Chemicals and hazardous materials
● Wildlife products
Restricted Items
● Ammunition and firearms.
● Medicines and drugs.
● Certain animals like camels, cattle, and horses.
● Jewelry
● Plants and their produce etc.
There are several required customs duties and charges in India:
● Basic Customs Duty (BCD): It can vary from 0% to 100% depending on the HS code of the item and its origin.
● Countervailing Duty (CVD): It varies from 0% to 12% depending on the product.
● Special Additional Duty (SAD): 4% where applied
● Social Welfare Surcharge (SWS): 10% where applied
● Compensation cess: Applied according to product type e.g., Tobacco
● Customs Handling Fee: 1%
● Integrated Goods and Services Charges (IGST): 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%.
Most shipping containers are constructed in such a way that rain cannot penetrate them after they are sealed tight. It doesn't mean they're waterproof; rather, it means they're watertight. This is because they are bound to take in water when submerged in a big volume of water (such as the sea).
Air vents are also fitted on opposite sides of a shipping container to ensure that wetness is kept to a minimum and the container is properly ventilated.
For cargo being loaded into a shipping container, there is a defined maximum weight requirement.
A maximum cargo weight of 67,200lbs is required when utilizing a 20ft container, but a maximum cargo weight of 67,200lbs or slightly less is allowed when using a 40ft container.
The term "Full Container Load" refers to a shipment in which a customer uses a whole container to ship his products. An LCL shipment, or "Less Than Container Load," involves numerous clients with limited cargo quantities shipping their items in one container.
Because an FCL shipment does not need to be reworked or rerouted away from its intended route, there will be a difference in transit time based on the variables involved in these two types of shipments (i.e. from loading port to the final destination). An LCL shipment, on the other hand, will be revised and rerouted to numerous routes due to several owners of the container's contents.
The government imposes taxes on the people. Whether you're importing or exporting items, you'll have to pay taxes on anything you buy. Shipping duties, on the other hand, are similar to indirect taxes imposed on consumers of imported products.
