How Much Does It Cost To Ship A Container To Cambodia?

Cambodia Container Shipping Cost

The cost of moving a container overseas differs widely. Different factors, like destination and shipping services, will determine the overall price.

If you want to know the cost of shipping a container to Cambodia, we can help you.

Three Movers is a shipping company that services Cambodia. If you're shipping valuable items to this country, here's what you need to know.

How much does it cost to ship a container to Cambodia?

Various factors, such as container size, destination, and shipment mode, affect the cost of transporting a full container to a different country. To help you plan and budget for your overseas shipping costs, we'll go through each factor in depth below.

  • The volume or weight of your items - The cost of shipping by sea freight is determined by the dimensions of your shipment. The weight of your cargo, on the other hand, is the main factor in calculating the cost of an air freight shipment.
  • Transport mode - The mode of transport will have a major effect on the shipping cost. Air freight is usually more expensive and quicker than sea freight. So, unless you're delivering time-sensitive products, transport by sea is the best option. When compared to air freight, sea freight is typically five times less expensive.
  • Distance: Shipping charges are also calculated based on the item's point of origin to its destination. If the distance is too far, then the delivery charge will be more expensive.
  • Destination port - Expect to pay import taxes and service costs at the destination port. The fees may vary by country, so the overall cost will also depend on the end destination of your shipping container.
  • Time of the year: Just like any other industry, international shipping has peak seasons. The peak seasons are during the summer and after the Chinese New Year. Shipping prices will be higher than usual during these times.

Other factors to consider when shipping commercial or personal items:

  • Insurance
  • Packing
  • Taxes and Custom fees
  • Inspections
  • General Rate Increase
  • Storage

In Cambodia, the peak season for international shipping occurs from November to April. Many tourists visit the country because these are the ideal months to explore and enjoy a getaway on the southern coast.

You can still ship your items during the peak season because there are three major international ports in Cambodia. There's a low chance that your package will get stuck at a port for weeks.

Which Size of Shipping Container Works Best for Me?

For residential or commercial shipping, you can choose between the 20ft or 40ft container.

You can pack the content of a three-bedroom house inside a 20-foot container. It's 33 cubic meters in size (cbm). However, the usable area is usually just around 25-28cbm.

The 40-foot container, on the other hand, has a total capacity of 67cbm, but only 54-58cbm is available for use. 40-foot containers are the best option if you have a lot of items to ship. It's the right choice if you're packing for houses with four (or more) bedrooms.

When moving your belongings, you don't necessarily have to pay for the entire container. You can share the space of a single container with other people. This shipping method is called LCL or less container load.

LCL is usually enough for moving the contents of a one-bedroom flat. If you have lots of items to ship, then FCL (Full Container Load) or sole-use cargo is the ideal shipping method for you.

To transport all of your items together, you would typically pay for a whole container. This option is faster and safer because the container will only include your things.

Different Types of Freight Transportation

There are several ways to move a container overseas. Each of them has its own pricing, perks, and drawbacks.

  • Land transport: Land transport: This mode of transportation is often used in both domestic and international moves. It has the advantage of being both cheap and fast. This method, however, is limited to locations that can only be reached by road or track.
  • Air freight: This is not a popular choice for shipping a container internationally because it's expensive. But despite the cost, air freight has the advantage of being incredibly fast and efficient. If you're only exporting a few boxes at a time, it might be a good option. You can ship your container to Cambodia by air freight. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on shipping, though, go with sea freight.
  • Sea freight: This method is the most cost-effective but time-consuming way of international shipping. Depending on the route and destination, ocean freight shipping might take from a few days to several weeks.
