Movers Dubai To Germany

Moving Companies From Dubai to Germany

Culturally, there are big differences between Germany and Dubai. In Dubai, for example, there are very strict laws governing the consumption of alcohol – you can only drink it in certain places, and you are prohibited from carrying it or even having it in your blood.

In Germany, the home of Oktoberfest, citizens have a much different relationship with alcohol. The legal drinking age is 16, which is the age when beer and similar beverages are allowed. Hard liquors are prohibited until the age of 18. Beer is considered food in this country, and you can buy it and drink it nearly anywhere. If you are a beer aficionado, you are going to love.

There’s a lot to know when you move internationally. The purpose of this guide is to share some of what you need to know to make an overseas move. Read on to learn more!

Importing Household Goods

There are two shipping methods for household goods and personal effects from Dubai, and that's air freight or sea freight. The first is faster but the latter is the most preferred in terms of cost, especially when your items can fill a half or full container load.

One of the first questions people ask when moving internationally is about what they will owe for customs duty and taxes. According to German customs regulations, you will be alllowed to import your household goods free of custom and border taxes, however that comes with a caveat.

To qualify for this tax and duty exemption, you must provide documentation to support:

  • Official termination of your residence abroad (Documentation could include a lease termination or sale agreements for your previous home in Dubai)
  • Proof of new residence in Germany (Again, this could be a lease agreement, Einwohnermeldeamt [German police registration], or a letter from your German employer.)
  • Proof of residency outside for at least 12 months (By way of a signed lease agreement or proof of homeownership.)

Remember, not all household goods will qualify for this exemption and there are some items that are strictly prohibited, including firearms and endangered animals. Reach out to the German embassy nearest you or talk to a shipping company familiar with the route for the most current guidance.

Transporting a Vehicle

When moving to this region permanently, you can import your vehicle free of duty and VAT. The requirements for this exemption are the same as for your household imports. You must be able to show that you have given up your residence in your home country and are shifting permanently.

In addition to the paperwork requirements, modifications to your conveyance may be required. Even if your transport meets all the technical and mechanical requirements, your vehicle will be inspected for roadworthiness and adherence to safety standards regarding headlights, emissions, brakes, and tires. Contact your local Kfz-Zulassungsstelle (German motor car registration office) to learn more.

Once your transport has safely arrived in this region and been processed through customs, you will need to register your vehicle. Here are the documents you will need to provide:

  • Valid Passport or Other ID
  • Proof of Ownership (free of liens or encumbrances)
  • Proof of Address in Germany
  • Customs Clearance
  • Export Permit
  • Vehicle Registration from your country of origin
  • Insurance Card
  • Proof of Roadworthiness and Emissions Testing
  • Certification from the German Federal Motor Vehicle Registry proving that the transporters has not previously been registered in Germany
