Tips For A Stress-free Move

Three Movers

Tips For A Stress-free Moving Experience

Moving is something that consistently ranks as one of the most stressful undertakings in life, and for good reason. There’s a ton to do and you often have to find extra time in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand around work, family life, and your other day to day obligations. Add to that the fact that you’re trying to figure out what your new life will be like and how you’ll adjust to living in a new city and you’ve got a recipe for a pretty hectic and stress-inducing situation. There are, however, a few things you can do to mitigate the most stressful parts of moving, which we’ll go over in the paragraphs below.

Give Yourself Time

Time is of the essence when you’re planning and executing a move. If you don’t give yourself enough time, you’ll be left scrambling to get everything done at the last moment, which increases the chances that you’ll overlook or forget something important. Try to give yourself several weeks (four to six) to handle all the different aspects of packing and preparation. That way, you’ll be able to break larger tasks like packing into smaller and more manageable chunks to make thing easier and feel less rushed. The more time you have, the better the odds that you won’t feel overwhelmed by the process.

Make A Checklist

Having a checklist will make it much easier to stay on task and give you an idea of how much time you’ll need to dedicate to things like finding packing materials, boxing up all your belongings, and making arrangements for a moving truck. A checklist will also help you prioritize what you need to do so that the more important tasks can be taken care of first and give you a sense of accomplishment as you’re able to cross them off your list. It helps you make your moving checklist as thorough and detailed as possible so that you don’t overlook anything. Keep in mind that you’ll likely have to add some things to your checklist as you go, which is part of the process. If you need help getting started, we have a moving checklist that covers the main things you’ll want to include.

Enlist Help

It can be really daunting to tackle everything yourself when moving, which is why it can be very helpful to ask for help, even during the early stages of packing. Even just one or two extra set of hands can make things go much faster and help you accomplish more. If you’re planning a do-it-yourself move, don’t be afraid to ask friends and family to help out when they can. You can even provide food and drinks and make it a partly social event so that you can spend time with people you care about as you’re getting things knocked off your to do list. You can also contact a moving company for packing help well before moving day if you really need to ramp things up and get a lot done in a short period of time.

Sleep & Eat Well

Getting plenty of sleep and eating well are always part of maintaining good mental health and moving is no exception. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water while you’re packing and moving and try to get a normal, uninterrupted night’s sleep. Eating well is another key part of the equation, but it doesn’t mean that you have to be eating as healthy as possible. It’s okay to treat yourself and your family to a night out at a favorite restaurant, which may even be preferable before you move. Don’t go overboard and eat pizza every day, but it’s fine to treat yourself for a hard day’s work of packing and moving, plus it will eliminate the need to buy groceries that you may not be able to finish eating before your move.

Leave Time For Fun

It’s easy to lose sight of the fun things you like doing while you’re in the midst of preparing for a move, but try not to skimp out on stuff you enjoy doing. Spending time with friends and family before you move is important, as is just enjoying your life with and the extra time you have. Plan a family outing, a date night, a sleepover if you have kids, or any other activity that brings you joy. You’ll be happy you did and it will make you feel much more refreshed when you have to get back to the work of packing and moving.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for the great help with our move. We have so much stuff and I was really worried about being able to take the time off work to pack and get everything moved and unpacked. Three Movers saved the day! Your men showed up and had our house and garage packed fast and even put everything in the precise room at the new house. You saved me a great deal of time and saved my family a lot of money! Thanks so much!
