Which Size of Container Works Best for Me?
It's best to choose between a 20ft and 40ft container. These are the ideal containers for moving residential and commercial stuff.
A 20ft container can hold the contents of a three-bedroom house. That would include all of your belongings in your garage, living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.
On the other hand, the 40ft container has 285 sq ft (26.47m2) of floor space and 2,120 cubic ft (60m3) of volume. That means it could include 20 standard pallets or 800 flat-screen TVs.
If your items could not fill the entire container, you can share the space with another person so you wouldn't have to pay for the whole thing. This shipping model is called LCL or less container load.
But in case you don't want to mix your things with another person, choose FCL or full container load. Pay for the entire container to ship your stuff.
Different Types of Freight Transportation
You have three options for freight transportation:
- Land
- Air freight
- Sea freight
Land transit is the most used transportation for intercontinental shipments because it's fast and efficient. However, this is only available to places that are accessible through roads or rails.
Since you're going to ship a container to Grenada, the best option could be air or sea freight.
Air cargo is the fastest mode of transportation but also the most expensive. The cost of moving a container through air freight will depend on the weight of your cargo. That's why if you're relocating a container overseas, ocean freight hauling is the best option.
Sea freight is the slowest type of transportation. It would take days or weeks before your container arrives at its destination. Despite its pace, this approach is cost-effective. It's probably not as cheap as land transport, but it's definitely not as expensive as air freight.

Frequently Asked Questions
International shipping requires a lot of documentation. To make it easy for you, below is a list of what you will need:
• Commercial Invoice.
• Packing List.
• Import Customs Declaration.
• Bill of Lading & Sea Waybill.
• Certificates (production, vessel, phytosanitary)
• Arrival Notice.
• Certificate of Origin.
• Importer Security Filing (local customs requirements)
• Letter of Credit.
Depending on what you will ship, you may need special licenses and government permission.
The Bill of Lading is a legal document issued by a carrier to a shipper that details the type, quantity, and destination of the shipment. It also serves as a receipt and a legal document that acts as the title to the goods.
Freight forwarders are in charge of the shipments and for transporting the goods between two destinations. They are well-versed in all modes of transportation – land, air, and sea. They will also help you process relevant shipping documents. The freight brokers are the middlemen between the shippers and carriers. They facilitate communication between the two parties. NVOCCs, or Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers, do not own or operate ocean transport vessels. Instead, they make arrangements with shipping companies and ship owners to transport the cargo under their own Bill of Lading.
In every country, there will be a list of items you’re not allowed to ship. In Grenada, certain goods are subject to specific controls and, regardless of quantity and value, need special permission from the Grenada government. Below is a list of things that are not allowed to enter Grenada:
• Asbestos
• Animals
• Bullion and currency
• Cosmetics
• Currency, forged or counterfeit
• Dangerous goods, Haz or comb materials
• Foodstuffs
• Gambling devices
• Gold and silver items bearing imitations of British hallmarks
• Ivory
• Jewelry, precious stones, and metals
• Liquids, non-hazardous
• Lottery tickets and advertising
• Personal effects

• Pornography
• Shaving brushes from Japan.
Import restrictions are applied to the following:
• Fruit
• Medicines
• Plants and parts of plants.
There is an import tax of 15% charged based on the full value of your items. For example, if your items are worth a total of $100, you will be charged $15 to receive your items.
Import duties vary depending on the item. For watches and jewelry, you will be charged 30%. For cameras, health & beauty products, clothing, pets’ accessories, home appliances and décor, dry food and supplements, toys, luggages audio/video, gaming equipment, you will be charged 20%. You will be charged 10% for sports equipment. Other items not belonging to any of these categories are at 0%.
To know why FCL and LCL have different transit times, it is important to know what they are.
There are two types of loading options you can choose from – Full Cargo Load and Less Than Cargo Load.
Full Cargo Load (FCL) is when a client uses one whole container for all of the items that will be shipped. It is the most secure loading option because the client is responsible for packing and unpacking the container from the departure point to its destination. An FCL container, once sent, will directly be in transit to the destination without rerouting or reworking.
The Less Than Cargo Load (LCL) option is when multiple clients use one container. It is cheaper than the FCL option but be aware that you will be sharing the container with a lot of people who availed of the same service. The shipping company is responsible for packing the items and unpacking them once they reach each of their designated ports. An LCL cargo can go through multiple ports and be reworked each time which is why it is slower than FCL.
Yes! It is possible to track your cargo in transit using the “cargo tracking system". It allows customers to track their shipment anytime and anywhere, even while it is in transit. To do so, you will need your container number/Bill of Lading/booking number and the shipping line.
If you want your cargo to be well-protected in case of damages and unprecedented situations, it is in your best interest to get insurance. Insurance is necessary for a transaction such as shipping internationally.
Even if you refuse to get insurance for your items, the container rental company will require you to insure their box.
