If the shuttle truck pulled up to your apartment without logos or the moving company name anywhere in sight, this is highly suspicious.

Aside from just insurance and licenses, consumers should use common sense when looking for a reputable moving company. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for whether or not the movers are professionals. Do they have a physical office and business email address? Have they given you a Bill of Lading? Is their initial quote too good to be true? If, in your gut, something is telling you that you’re walking into a scam, listen.

Another thing to keep in mind is if the company requires a deposit. If the movers ask for a deposit that is more than 20 percent of your quote, choose a different moving company. Most trustworthy companies will only require payments once your belongings have been delivered.
