Top Things To Do Before Moving Into Your Own Home

It's difficult to move to a new home sometimes but if you think about it, it could be very exciting. After signing the mortgage papers and feeling those keys in your hand, it is time to get started living your dream. Apart from selecting the right moving company, before you shift into your new residence, you will want to go through this checklist to ensure that you get the most out of your new house and feel safer at your new location.

1. Change All The Locks On The House

You don't know who has been given the keys to your haven in the past and to avoid any unwelcome guests at any hour who didn't get the memo that the previous homeowners have moved, you need to change those locks.

2. Give Your New Haven A New Look

Painting some of the interior walls will give your apartment a much needed update on the look that the last homeowners found to be acceptable. Don't forget the closets and ceilings.

3. Check The Insulation In Your Residence

Again, you don't know when the last update was done to your new residence and it is important to have everything in the best condition, always. The insulation will help keep you and your family warm in the winter and cool in the summer. If the insulation is not up-to-date, you may be looking at a high utility bill every month until you make the transformation.

4. New Flooring Can Make a Difference

Before the moving truck arrives with your items, replace the flooring with a more modern look.

5. Install a New Gutter System

If the gutter system is old on your new home, it is not going to be long until you are dealing with mold, mildew, board rot, and a leaky basement. A new gutter system can prevent all of this and more.

6. Transformation Your Outlet Covers

chances are, the outlet covers haven't been given a second thought since the apartment was built. Outlet covers can be a great way to upgrade the look of a room and it is very affordable.

7. Adjustment The Toilet Seat

It's not going to break the bank to change the toilet seat in your new house.

8. Change The HVAC Filters In Your Air Conditioning Unit/ Furnace

You will appreciate it when you need to use them, new filters mean cleaner air and less stress on the heating and air conditioning unit.

9. Check All The Smoke Detectors And Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Replace all the batteries in all the units to ensure that they are all working. If you don't see any in your new home, it's important that you put some up throughout.

10. Bring Portable Lights

Does the rooms operate with lamps only? Check this out before you move because chances are all your lamps are packed and loaded on the moving truck. Bring some portable lights with you just in case you don't have overhead lights.
