The Hardest Items to Move
Published by Chris Townsend
Moving is never an easy task no matter how little furniture you may have. There’s planning, packing, loading, unloading and plenty of lifting in between. But the fact of the matter is that some items are much more challenging to move than others, usually because they’re very heavy or large enough to make it awkward to lift and fit them through doorways or up stairs. Sometimes it’s just because they’re very delicate items that require a lot of care and caution when moving. If you’ve ever wondered what some of the most challenging items to move are, you’re in luck. And if you’ve ever had to move any of these things, you’ll know why they’re on this list.
Pianos
Pianos are always a challenge to move since they’re heavy and not an easy item to get a good grip on. They also have small, delicate parts that need to be handled with care so you can’t just muscle them onto a truck or through a doorway. Pianos come in different sizes too, so some are more of a challenge to move than others, but in either case, it’s a job that’s best left to professionals. Not to say that you can’t move a piano on your own with some help, but the better option is to have professional movers handle it for you.
Fish Tanks & Aquariums
Some items are hard to move not because they’re extremely heavy or awkward, but because they need to be handled with care to keep from damaging them. Fish tanks and aquariums definitely fall into this category since they’re glass enclosed and often quite large. Care needs to be taken not just in moving them from house to truck and your new home, but they also need to be carefully protected within the truck while driving. Another challenge can be in preparing them for a move since you’ll need to drain the water and take care to protect your fish or reptiles during the move.

Pool Tables
Pool tables are another doozy when it comes to moving. They’re large, very heavy, and not easy to maneuver through doorways, up or down stairs, or on and off a moving truck. These are another item that you may be tempted to try and move on your own, but you’d be better served by calling in professionals. They also require some protection once loaded into the truck, especially if a table is made up of delicate slate.
Hot Tubs
Hot tubs often require special equipment to move since they’re heavy, big, and need to be handled carefully to protect the motor and other small parts. They don’t require as much protection as other things on this list once they’re loaded onto the truck, but getting a hot tub to the truck and safely unloaded is no easy task. When you’re considering movers to relocate a hot tub for you, make sure they have the necessary experience to do the job carefully and professionally.
Plants
Plants are delicate living things, which are always a challenge to move. One of the biggest problems when moving plants is that moving trucks or even your own car can get very hot while in transit. Most moving trucks are not climate controlled, so it’s usually best to move plants in your own vehicle where you can control the temperature better. If you’ve got a particularly long move, be sure to keep the car cool and protect them from too much direct sunlight while driving.
