How Much Does It Cost To Ship A Container To Honduras?
You want to relocate a container to Honduras, but you don’t know what it will cost or what factors will affect the cost. Don’t be troubled, Three Movers ships containers to Honduras. We will first help you understand the details of relocating, like the effect of the size of international shipments and the distance on the cost of hauling.
Factors That Affect Cost
The volume and weight of the cargo affect the cost of shifting. The distance affects the cost too. The farther the distance, the higher the cost of relocating. Using air to freight in your cargo or opting for sea transportation also has an effect on the cost of hauling.
The destination port affects the cost of hauling, as different ports have different tariffs and unique fees. Assuming you want to ship your items within the period of July and October, costs will vary compared to the rest of the year. This is because the period of July to as far as November is the peak period. Increased demand will affect the cost of transporting.
Which Size Of Container Works Best For Me?
Shipping containers are classified into 20ft and 40ft containers. If you aren’t a hoarder, and you want to move the contents of a three-bedroom flat or smaller, a 20ft container will be big enough to contain your things. If you want to ship more, however, a 40ft container will be the obvious choice. Filling the container with only your items makes the container a Full Container Load (FCL). There is an option if your items won’t fill a container. It is called Less Than Container Load (LCL). In this case, items from various Three Movers clients are packed into a single container.

Understanding Different Types Of Freight Transportations
There are two options if you intend to relocate your container(s) to Honduras: air and sea. Airfreight transportation is particularly useful if you have time-sensitive cargo you desire to send. Keep in mind, though, that it might add to the cost. Sea freight transportation is the more popular method of shifting cargo. It is useful particularly for large cargo or items that aren’t time-sensitive.
Freight Ports
There are many different places in Honduras that we will relocate to. There are different destinations for people using sea freight and air freight.
Sea Freight Ports
Shifting your goods using ocean freight can be time-consuming. But, because of the low costs, most people use ocean freight to ship their goods to Honduras. Here are the major ports in Honduras for ocean freight.
1. Port Of Puerto Cortes
This is the biggest seaport in Central America based on annual traffic. Its proximity to US seaports in the Gulf of Mexico and East Coast helps its traffic. This is the only deep water port in Honduras and is open 24/7. You can expect efficient service in this port because of the presence of sophisticated handling equipment.
2. Port Of San Lorenzo
This shallow water port features a T-shaped concrete pier that is more than 98- feet long. 20- feet wide canal has been constructed to access this port.

Ports For Air Freight
Air Freight is great for time-sensitive hauling. These are some common cargo airports in Honduras that people use for air freight.
1. Toncontín International Airport
This airport is located in the city of Tegucigalpa. Passenger, cargo as well as military flights are operated from this airport. You can use DHL to ship goods to this airport.
2. Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport
This is one of the busiest airports in Honduras. This airport operates both cargo and passenger flights. FedEx, DHL as well as UPS operates flights from this airport.
Additional Costs For Relocation
There are additional costs for container services that you need to consider, and they are:
- Insurance for the items to be hauled
- Custom fees at the Honduran ports
- Inspection fees
- General Rate Increase (GRI)
- Delivery time
Although picking items at the port of Honduras is relatively easy, door-to-door delivery is a viable option. It reduces the stress of personally clearing your items at the port. Note that door-to-door delivery for international hauling will result in an additional cost.
Cost to Relocate a container?
Whether you relocate from Honduras Mexico, Honduras Korea, Honduras Spain, Honduras Panama, Honduras Brazil. Honduras Chile, Honduras Japan, Honduras Taiwan, Honduras France, Honduras United States, San Francisco, San Diego, and San Antonio the hauling process is effortless with a commercial invoice. Here is the detail for international shipments or ocean freight hauling with a cargo!
Relocation is probably going to be slightly more expensive than most other places in the world. The reason for this is that there are very few companies who haul containers to Honduras and competition is low, which means higher prices.
In order to save some big bucks on shipping your container, it would be best if you found someone who is transporting out of the same port as you are. This will help lessen some of the stress with your company and can help to lower prices considerably.
If you are speaking with a representative from your relocating company now, be sure to ask them what they charge for loading and unloading in Honduras. If their prices seem high, make sure you ask them for an explanation. If they are in fact charging you too much, it would be best to find another company who will give you a better price.
Honduras is not the country to ship your container to if you are looking to get the best deal, so be prepared for costs that are slightly higher than other places in Latin America.
What is the cost of hauling?
The cost of shipping a car to Honduras will depend on how big it is. You can fit one or two midsized cars into an ocean container which ships for $1,500 to $2,000 depending upon the destination port. This price also includes 20 feet of space in the container for personal belongings and household goods. Pricing for containers to Honduras can be $1,000 cheaper if you are willing to "stuff" the container leaving no space available for personal belongings.
You will likely want to haul your car by roll-on/roll-off (RORO) because they are usually cheaper than container shipping but they also take longer. The standard rate that carriers offer is $600 per car, regardless of the size or value. This price excludes the driver's personal belongings which can be shipped in a 20ft container with household goods for an additional cost.
Factors Affecting Cost
The cost of hauling depends on a number of factors, including the distance to be traveled and the weight and size of your shipment. The cost to transport a container can range anywhere from $1,200 - $6,000. This average cost is based on the combined weight and size of the shipment and the distance traveled. For example, hauling a 40' container to the port in Charleston costs between $1,200 - $2,100. Relocating a 20' container from Honduras to Savannah can cost up to $3,500. The price difference is determined by the distance traveled and the weight of the shipment.

LCL vs. FCL- Which is Best for Hauling?
When relocating a container, it is very important that you choose the right type of container. There are two types of shipping containers LCL or Less than Container Load and FCL or Full Container Load. Both have different costs attached to them with each being more suited for certain situations.
If you are only shipping one or two items to Honduras it is more than likely best to go with an LCL. This will work out much cheaper than FCL, however, there are some drawbacks to this option. You will not be able to choose which type of container you would like, therefore you may end up with a standard 20ft container or a 40ft, etc. This can be a problem for some items as you will not have the correct size of container to fit all your goods in. Another drawback is that you will be sharing space with other people's goods, therefore adding time to delivery schedules and increasing the chance of damage while in transit.
Another option is to go for the FCL. If you are only moving one or two items this will likely be a much more costly option but it gives you much more flexibility and control over your shipment. You will be able to choose which type of container is right for you, such as 20ft, 40ft, 45ft, etc. It also allows you to choose what date you wish to pick up your container and has less of a chance of being damaged during transit. It is more suited for larger shipments with over 15 items or so.
If you are moving large amounts of goods it is most likely best to go with an FCL as this will work out cheaper in the long run. If you do not have a large number of goods to ship you might want to consider going with an LCL. This will be much more cost-effective if the items are not delicate or too large for a standard-length container. I hope that this has helped in some way and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
TYPES OF FREIGHTS
What is air freight?
Airfreight is an expensive option for moving, but it can be more efficient when you are hauling smaller items. However, when you are relocating larger items that weigh more than 500 pounds, air freight can become cost-prohibitive. Air freight is also a great option for transporting perishable items that are time-sensitive. If you want to cut down costs, consider having your post office or FedEx pick up air freight shipments from the airport rather than receiving them yourself.
Another way to cut costs with air freight is by consolidating small packages into one box and utilizing economies of scale. It is also a good idea to use boxes designated for air freight. Airfreight is not recommended for anything below your parcel service's size or weight requirements, as it can become costly to ship heavy items this way.
What is ocean freight?
Ocean freight is a term used to describe the cost of moving goods from one destination to another via cargo haul. There are many different types of goods that can be shipped by boats, such as cars, furniture, food, and even people themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions
Shipping containers to Honduras requires complete documentation submitted before departure. Required paperwork includes a commercial invoice, original bill of lading, packing list, shipper ID, value declaration, and Honduran import documents prepared by a licensed customs broker. Certain cargo types require sanitary or agricultural certificates. Missing documents are the leading cause of port delays, often adding 3–7 days and additional storage charges to international container shipments.
Affordable container shipping to Honduras typically costs $2,800–$6,500 for a 20-foot container and $4,800–$9,000 for a 40-foot container when using international moving pods or full container load service. Pricing is driven by container size, origin port, cargo weight, fuel surcharges, customs fees, and final delivery distance. Shared containers lower upfront costs but increase transit time.
Container shipping to Honduras usually takes 10–18 days port to port from major US gateways such as Miami, Houston, and New Orleans, with full timelines explained under international moving costs. Customs clearance, inspections, and inland delivery add another 3–7 days. Peak hurricane season from June through November and port congestion can extend delivery windows, especially for consolidated shipments.
Honduras applies import duties ranging from 0–15% depending on cargo classification, plus a 15% sales tax on most goods. Alcohol, tobacco, and luxury items carry additional excise taxes. Duties are assessed by Honduran customs authorities based on declared value and documentation, with full cost breakdowns commonly reviewed during moving overseas shipping costs planning to avoid unexpected port fees.
Cargo insurance is strongly recommended for container shipping to Honduras because ocean carriers limit liability for loss or damage. Insurance protects against weather exposure, handling damage, theft, and port delays, which are common risk factors on Central American routes. Coverage is especially important for household goods and commercial cargo moved through international moving and storage solutions with multi-stage handling.
Shipping containers to Honduras can be tracked throughout transit using the carrier’s container number once the vessel departs. Tracking updates show port departures, transshipment points, customs holds, and arrival status. Visibility varies by carrier and whether the shipment is full container load or consolidated, but tracking access is standard practice for international container shipping routed through regulated ocean freight channels.
