Overseas Moving Companies Cape Town
Nestled between the foothills of Table Mountain and the wide expanse of the Pacific Ocean, Cape Town, South Africa is the second most populated city in South Africa. This city boasts a comfortable Mediterranean climate and exceptional biodiversity.
International move to or from Cape Town can be easy when you work with international movers near you. You can import your household goods to South Africa duty-free if you arrive in the country at least 10 days before your shipment arrives. All of the paperwork described below must be submitted to customs agents at least a week before your shipment arrives.
Art and antiques can qualify for duty-free import as well, as long as they are more than 100 years old and have been owned by the import customer for at least a year.
Here are some of the documents you will be asked to provide:
- Valid passport with South African entry stamp
- Bill of Lading
- South African residence permit
- South African work permit
- Detailed inventory in English
- Letter from South African employer
- Customs Forms DA 304 and P.1.160 (3 copies)
- Settlers Declaration Forms (3 copies)
- Import permit (must be obtained at least 2 months before your move)
Remember, if you import an item to South Africa tax and duty-free, you must promise not to sell, rent, lease, or trade that item for at least a year after your arrival.
What are the rules for importing vehicles to South Africa?
You are allowed to import one vehicle per household to South Africa. Your vehicle can be cleared without duty, but taxes and other fees apply. You will be assessed a VAT, or Value Added Tax on the assessed value of your vehicle, and you will be charged a fee of R1800.00 as well.
To be eligible for import, all vehicles purchased since 2000 must be manufactured with right hand drive. Vehicles purchased before 2000 may be required to undergo mechanical modifications if they are configured for left hand drive.
South African customs officials will require the following documents:
- Title and Registration from your country of origin
- Proof that you have owned the vehicle for at least 1 year
- South African Customs Form DA 304/A
- South African Import Permit
- South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) Letter of Authority
